It’s Kataday – String Calculator
String Calculator is a great follow up Test-Driven Development (TDD) kata to two of our favourite katas; Fizz Buzz andLeap Year.
Here at Codurance Kataday HQ, we are continuing with our festive mood.
This week we are looking at one of the katas used at the last London Software Craftsmanship Community gathering.
Although Christmas trees have long been a key part of festive celebrations in Europe, they only became fashionable in the UK during the reign of Queen Victoria through the influence of her husband, Prince Albert.
In this kata, we find that there is a shortage of Christmas trees, this year. Santa is calling you to help with this by creating code to create trees on each child's console.
Now, Santa, being approximately 1,751 years old, can only write in binary, so you will need to help him write a program in a more modern language.
Now where did I put those decorations?
Getting set up can be the roadblock to starting a kata. In our screenkatas you can join our Software Craftspeople and let them show you how to set up your repositories for Java, PHP, Python and Typescript. For other languages, check out our guide on GitHub.
Love our #kataday challenges? Then find them all here and don't forget that our Katalyst portal is filled with programming problems to expand and sharpen your coding skills.
